Work Book, Spreadsheet, Worksheet and Cell

Work Book, Spreadsheet, Worksheet and Cell

A workbook is just like a large document with multiple topics related to each other. A workbook may contain multiple worksheets. Each workbook is given a name, which is generally known as file name. A worksheet is a part of workbook, which is combination of rows and columns (cells). This is the part of workbook where user is directly involved in writing his data, modifying or saving his data. A worksheet is also known as spreadsheet because it is a very large sheet (many times larger than manual sheets). Generally, a worksheet may have 256 columns and 65536 rows.

CHARTS

A chart is a graphical representation of data, in which "the data is represented by symbols, such as bars in a bar chart, lines in a line chart, or slices in a chart”. A chart can represent tabular numeric data, functions or some kinds of qualitative structures.

SPREAD SHEET (MS-Excel)

A spreadsheet is a computer application that simulates a paper, accounting worksheet. It displays multiple cells that together make up a grid consisting of rows and columns, each cell containing either alphanumeric text or numeric values. A spreadsheet cell may alternatively contain a formula that defines how the content of that cell is to be calculated from the contents of any other cell (or combination of cells) each time any cell is updated. Spreadsheets are frequently used for financial information because of their ability to re-calculate the entire sheet automatically after a change to a single cell is made.

Wild Card Character:

     Wild Card

Ø                             Wild card is the special character or a symbol which is used for substituting one or more than one character of a filename and its extension. As files accumulate on disk, we may forget the name of filename. Sometimes, we want to copy, delete or otherwise work with a group of related files. To help us, MS-DOS recognizes wild cards special characters that can represent any other valid characters in a filename.

DISK OPERATING SYSTEM (DOS)

Internal commands:

1. cls (Clear the Screen)

Syntax:           cls
Example: C :\> cls

2. dir

The dir command typed by itself, displays the disk's volume label and serial number; one directory or filename per line, including the filename extension, the file size in bytes, and the date and time the file was last modified; and the total number of files listed, their cumulative size, and the free space (in bytes) remaining on the disk. The command is one of the few commands that exist from the first versions of DOS

TYPES OF PRINTER

C
haracter matrix printers are a category of computer printers (typically impact printers) that place characters from a fixed character set anywhere onto a fixed grid of possible locations on the page. Examples of these are daisy wheel printers, golf ball printers, chain printers, and band printers. A character printer prints one character at a time.

Input Devices

A 'keyboard' is a human interface device which is represented as a layout of buttons. Each button, or key, can be used to either input a linguistic character to a computer, or to call upon a particular function of the computer. Traditional keyboards use spring-based buttons, though newer variations employ virtual keys, or even projected keyboards.

In computing, a keyboard is an input device, partially modeled after the typewriter keyboard, which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys, to act as mechanical levers or electronic switches. A keyboard typically has characters engraved or printed on the keys and each press of a key typically corresponds to a single written symbol. However, to produce some symbols requires pressing and holding several keys simultaneously or in sequence. While most keyboard keys produce letters, numbers or signs (characters), other keys or simultaneous key presses can produce actions or computer commands.
